Day Three: Standing on the Beach

Trust me
It's Paradise
This is where the hungry come to feed
For mine is a generation that circles the globe
in search of something we haven't tried before
so never refuse an invitation
never resist the unfamiliar
never fail to be polite
and never outstay your welcome

just keep your mind open and
suck in the experience
and if it hurts
you know what... it's probably worth it

you hope, and you dream
but you never believe that
something is going to happen for you
not like it does in the movies
and when it actually does
you expect it to feel different
more visceral
more real
i was waiting for it to hit me

i still believe in paradise
but now at least i know it's not some place you can look for
cause it's not where you go
it's how you feel for a moment in your life
and if you find that moment it lasts forever

- Orbital (feat. Leonardo Di Caprio) "Beached"

There we go again. Somebody beat me to the lines. No regrets though. Makes a wonderful soundtrack when driving alone - which i'll be doing later.

Anyway, day three was even better. After spending the previous night getting soused up on a San Mig Light/red wine combo while playing card games and jenga with the gang (we made sure amaya was asleep before we brought out the goodies), i ended up with a mild hangover that quickly cleared up as soon as i realized i'll be seeing the Kings fishes once again.

Zandro the boatman was missing from his usual post, so we had to wait for a couple more minutes. Amaya acted up upon boarding the banca, so it was decided to leave her and Bel on the adjoining beach for some sand castling. Along with Nel and Alvin, we managed to get to a farther point and waited in ambush for the school to arrive.

Yesterday, i was a bit hesitant and made sure i was near the boat at all times. Now, i got a bit more confident with the life vest and ventured into farther territory. It was even better. Managed to see a scorpion fish cleverly hiding along the corals and pretending to be a rock. The eyes gave it away. Even more colorful fish surrounded and seemed to follow me. It was awesome that we went more than an hour at it, unmindful of the per hour rates nor bel and amaya waiting at the other side.

To top it off, we had lunch at the beach. We hiked towards a nearby fish stall and brought grilled tilapia and steamed jumbo shrimp, then proceeded to annex a shaded picnic table and demolish the morsels by hand. That feast deserved a 3 hour nap afterwards. Sadly, the swim at the resort pool later was a bit anticlimactic.

At least we had one hell of a card game that night. Everybody ended up dusty with baby powder...

you'd be glad to know that despite the frenzy, i was able to finish Digital Fortress by Dan Brown (a disappointment) and went halfway with Holy Blood, Holy Grail.
