Something fishy

I came up with the idea, but i had second thoughts.

Nel ignored my blather and proceeded to pack three days worth of clothes for a day tour to Subic.

At first i grumbled about the distance.
Then, i groused about the steep admission price.
Still then, i tried to point out that animals were being kept captive.
Finally, i mumbled something about too many visitors and too few attractions.

Hours later, i left Ocean Adventure feeling a bit better. About the animals, about the sea, and about me.
The aquarium was a bit small by oceanarium standards, but they did house a pretty good collection of sea creatures that i rarely saw during my snorkeling sessions. The sea lion show was pretty entertaining, but it was nonsensical as most animal comedies are. But the dolphin show was way out of sight. Seeing it up close was way way way cooler than watching it on TV. And getting to hear them and touch them was icing on the cake.

Like i mentioned earlier, the place is a bit smallish. You can tour the whole facility in half a day. But the dolphin show made up for the cost of the ticket. Owing to lack of time and a madding crowd, we passed up on a swimming session at nearby Camayan Cove and decided to go PX shopping instead. And they have Reese's peanut butter cups available!

I'm sure glad now we decided to go...

prologue: I hedged against writing this entry but i guess transparency won over everything else. If i continued writing about just the good things, it wouldn't make much sense 10 years from now, as any offspring might see this and conclude that was a cheery person my entire life. --- We lost a game we should have won last night by 3 points. Led the entire game except the last 2 minutes. And what's worse, i spent the whole game chained to the bench. I do realize i may not be as good as the rest of the players, but i try to do my share whenever asked. Day Two: Diary of a Starfish

i hate Holy Week. Talk about invasion of privacy. What's so holy about that? One week a year and tourists go ape shit. I wish to God they'd be content to watch you in your natural habitat. But nooo. They pick you up, turn you around, and take stupid videos of you doing what comes naturally. Here i am, minding my own fucking business -- mind you, the harmless business of burying myself halfway in the sand, and feeding on plankton. For God's sake, plankton! microscopic organisms nobody would miss. And i do my part in keeping the ocean clean. Then these bastards come in droves during Holy Week. They crowd the shores, and they have the nerve to pick on wildlife. Harmless fucking wildlife that survived millions of years of evolution, only to be picked up by a 30-year old in an outdated Kings jersey for the sole reason he doesn't know what starfish do when they flip over. Name Game

manila_ice@yahoo.com i was contemplating an Internet ID name change and thought of the above moniker. It's hip, it's short, it's close to the original nick and hits me home. I broached the idea to Nel yesterday while driving. She couldn't exactly determine if i was serious or not. But somehow, every time she says it out loud, she couldn't supress her laughter. what's so funny about manila ice? Aside from the fact that I personally find it so wretchedly contrived, disarming, and unexplicably unnerving. What do you think?
